I learned Calgarians were always willing to lend a hand (or at least a finger)

Our First Thanksgiving

Skipping back a few months from our first Valentine's Day, our first 'meet the family' trip was actually a road trip to Edmonton to spend Thanksgiving weekend with my brother Mike and his wife, Sonia. Mom and Wayne also drove out along with Wayne's son (and my stepbrother) Phil and his wife Shay. We were also meeting up with Wayne's other son (and my other stepbrother), Devon who had been living in Edmonton for a couple of years by then.

The big reason besides the turkey we were going was the guys (and Jaime) wanted to take in an Edmonton Oilers hockey game. Thinking as it was one of the early season games we would have no problem getting tickets so we were going to purchase them the night of the game.

Long story short, we had problems. There was no way we were getting tickets altogether so we split up and tried to get some scalped tickets. Jaime and I had a limit of $100 and not finding any pairs for that price, we went across the street to a nightclub while the others went inside and started getting shit-faced.

We were the only customers in the club so we had the place to ourselves, which also means we had excellent service and a pretty decent date night. After the game, we found the guys and proceeded to have a great night taking in the Edmonton White Mile Life. We drank beers at a blues club, drank more beers at a over-capacity club and ended the night drinking more beers ... well, that's when things started turning weird so I'll just stop here.

Despite all this, Jaime stuck it out on perhaps the strangest and most entertaining Thanksgiving weekend ever. We then went off to Calgary and drank with some more friends, meeting up with Jaime's ex-roommate Jessica for a bit of Calgary nightlife.

To put how great this trip was, nine months later, Avery was born.
